To create this amazing tri-color image that was made by Nick Kelley and Matt Heath here are the steps that we used. First we picked an good candidate image which in this case was M17 or the Eagle Nebula. Secondly, we searched with Leopard through Spitzer data for an IRAC image of M17 at Ch1(3.6microns) and Ch4(8.0microns). Next we downloaded these images to the desktop. We then unzipped these files so we could next use them in Leopard. We opened these files with leopard and then selected "Create a 3 color image". The next step was to assign color bands to each individual wavelength. In this case we picked green for Ch1, Red for ch 4. We then opened an image from DSS POSS2Infrared and assigned the color band blue to this image. Then we cropped the image afterwards we adjusted the stretch on the colorbands to capture the most detail of the Eagle Nebula.
