LUISA ADDS: make sure everyone knows that this is going to be work. fun, but work. and it is unlikely to make sense the first time through, or possibly even the second or third time through. but keep asking questions until it DOES make sense. that's one of the main points of the visit - to get your questions answered and not let you flail. take good notes. you will go home from this visit, get on with your summer, and forget a lot of it before you get back to it. take good notes!
Resolution (how deep for students, our exercise?, Luisa's analogy?) resolution - http://coolwiki.ipac.caltech.edu/index.php/C-WAYS_Resolution_Worksheet LMR says: probably should have your kids start thinking about these issues, or even do just the one task that gave you an "a-ha" moment.

Formation and Evolution of Young Stellar Objects --> LW discussion of YSOs - LMR says: we will cover lots of this on monday morning, no need to do this in extreme detail. http://coolwiki.ipac.caltech.edu/index.php/Studying_Young_Stars http://coolcosmos.ipac.caltech.edu/resources/star_formation/ http://www.spitzer.caltech.edu/explore/blog/158-The-Story-of-Star-Formation

Pavlak:

Hey all!
I am Ashley Pavlak (as you can probably tell from the title) and I am very excited to be a part of the C-WAYS project! Stars, CalTech, NASA...it's my childhood dream come true.

About Me
I go to Lincoln-Way West high school in the middle of a cornfield. Actually, that's not entirely true--there is a church right next door. True story, you can see it from our Marching Band practice field!

Right now I'm undecided about college, but I definitely want to go to a state school to be near my family. I hope to major in Mathematics (nerdy, I know. My friends tell me daily) and to become certified in teaching. I think it would be fantastic to be a high school/junior high math teacher. I especially like trigonometry.

As for this C-WAYS project, I'm extremely excited about it! I've always liked looking at the stars and looking for constellations. Mainly the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia, though. And with Latin class, I've learned the stories behind some of them as well--the constellations, I mean.

P.S. I've recently gotten some data and just got done running some numbers. Ashley 17:11, 3 June 2012 (PDT)
Extracurriculars
Here's everything I'm involved in at my school:
~The color guard of the Marching Warriors--dance captain this year.
~Bella Capella (the girls after school choir)
~Junior Classical League (Latin club--I'm the Historian)
~National JCL (Honors Latin club)
~National Honors Society
~Mu Alpha Theta
~Mathletes (ps we got 10th in state this past year, and my calculator team got third!)
~Winterguard.
Did I mention everything? Yeah, I think so. So can you tell I'm involved in extracurriculars?

How I Got Involved with NITARP
Basically, Mrs. P is the mother of my colorguard instrustor, Megan. Mrs. Piper asked Megan if there were any girls in the guard that would be a good pick for the project and Megan recommended me! Soon enough, Mrs. Piper emailed me with all the info. And here I am today.

Hey all!
I am Ashley Pavlak (as you can probably tell from the title) and I am very excited to be a part of the C-WAYS project! Stars, CalTech, NASA...it's my childhood dream come true.

Extracurriculars
Here's everything I'm involved in at my school:
~The color guard of the Marching Warriors--dance captain this year.
~Bella Capella (the girls after school choir)
~Junior Classical League (Latin club--I'm the Historian)
~National JCL (Honors Latin club)
~National Honors Society
~Mu Alpha Theta
~Mathletes (ps we got 10th in state this past year, and my calculator team got third!)
~Winterguard.
Did I mention everything? Yeah, I think so. So can you tell I'm involved in extracurriculars?
Basically, Mrs. P is the mother of my colorguard instrustor, Megan. Mrs. Piper asked Megan if there were any girls in the guard that would be a good pick for the project and Megan recommended me! Soon enough, Mrs. Piper emailed me with all the info. And here I am today.
Extracurriculars
Here's everything I'm involved in at my school:
~The color guard of the Marching Warriors--dance captain this year.
~Bella Capella (the girls after school choir)
~Junior Classical League (Latin club--I'm the Historian)
~National JCL (Honors Latin club)
~National Honors Society
~Mu Alpha Theta
~Mathletes (ps we got 10th in state this past year, and my calculator team got third!)
~Winterguard.
Did I mention everything? Yeah, I think so. So can you tell I'm involved in extracurriculars?

How I Got Involved with NITARP
Basically, Mrs. P is the mother of my colorguard instrustor, Megan. Mrs. Piper asked Megan if there were any girls in the guard that would be a good pick for the project and Megan recommended me! Soon enough, Mrs. Piper emailed me with all the info. And here I am today.
