Here is some work to do over the next couple of weeks, so we are ready for our visit to Caltech.

Source Matching
We need to check the sources we have worked on and come up with a final list that we can compare to a couple of other teachers/students. We have to finish this since we will be the ones having to face everyone else at Caltech. Check the Gregorio/Ogura sources. Everything with a red background needs to be checked.

Photometry
Read over this page to get the basics about Photometry. Look for the definition of flux and magnitude.
The HR diagram is a useful diagram that astronomers use to compare stars. It is a diagram that two astronomers came up with independent of each other, Mr Hertzsprung and Mr Russell (thus HR diagram!!). They decided to graph the temperature of a star vs. its brightness or luminosity. They noticed patterns which end up being related to the age and life cycle of a star. This webpage has a nice description of the HR diagram. You only need to read the two sections Introduction and The HR Diagram in General.
Read through this web page about Units. Don't worry if you don't understand everything. I am making a list of things I don't understand on this page. Feel free to add to it.
